Guthrie police officer terminated on Monday

Bookmark and Share

The City of Guthrie announced on Monday afternoon that Lt. Mark Bruning with the Guthrie Police Department has been terminated immediately as recommended by a disciplinary hearing panel.

Mark BruningIn a letter to Bruning, City Manager Sereniah Breland stated: “I have received a letter from Chief (Damon) Devereaux stating his recommendation, in agreement with the Disciplinary Hearing Panel, that your employment with the City of Guthrie be terminated.”

The letter does not specifically give a reason for the termination.

An official complaint was filed against the Guthrie Police Department and Bruning claiming the officer made an illegal arrest on his wife’s ex-husband following the Mumford and Sons concert on Sept. 7.

Kyle White, the man who is accusing Bruning of wrongfully arresting him, is asking the City of Guthrie for $125,000 in compensation for the arrest. Related story: No decision made on the future of a Guthrie police officer

“I concur with the findings and recommendation of the Disciplinary Hearing Panel, and Chief Devereaux’s recommendation,” Breland said, who had the ultimate decision on the employment.

Despite reports of Bruning’s firing last week, the termination letter stated his termination was effective as of today (Oct. 21). Bruning was put on paid administrative leave pending the city’s final decision.

Bruning told KOCO he will fight the decision. He is expected to talk more on Tuesday.

“I was shocked to hear about this decision from the board,” Bruning was quoted of saying. “I’m going to fight for my career and the job I love.”

You realize there is very limited information here to make any decision from. Until all the facts are made public voicing any unwarranted smears intentional or not will not help the city’s case. I do not know this officer nor his work ethic. I am a retired Marine and also a retired police officer. Until all evidence is provided to the public I would suggest reserving your opinions or if you want to voice them to keep them out of the public eye.

ST your reply shows how uneducated you are. Look at your spelling and sentence structure. You sound like a disgruntled little boy/girl. If you can not comprehend what I stated don’t attack me. It only shows your ignorance. nuf said

I do not know this particular police officer, but I do know he and others have done the same thing. You have to remember he is the investigating officer who backs other officers that practice the same manipulations on unsuspecting people. These officers have made many people in Guthrie afraid to go against them. WRONG!!!!!!!!
