Oklahoma City (April 30, 2015) – Dream Portal Productions presents TALOA Music Festival September 25-27, 2015, in Guthrie, OK. The all-ages festival will take place in the Cottonwood Flats, just blocks away from historic downtown. TALOA taps an eclectic blend of down tempo, electro, funk, soul, jazz, hip-hop, bluegrass and folk (new grass), blues-rock and red dirt stylings that will please the musical palates of multiple generations.  Read more…

Joe Chappell, a long-time supporter of clean and beautiful neighborhoods, is this year’s Chairman of Neighborhood Solutions latest program “Guthrie Cares”.  Chappell, a licensed Health Care Administrator, currently serves as Vice Chairman of Neighborhood Solutions and is a founder of Highland Park Neighborhood Association. Many of you have heard the news that I will be leaving the Guthrie Chamber at the end of May.  I will be tackling a new adventure but an old passion: FOOD. I will be opening a food trailer with my brother, Ben Coffin.  We will be traveling around Oklahoma creating menus with fresh ingredients from the farm and or farmer’s market. I began comparing our community and school district to others long before my family even moved to Guthrie. In fact, I researched Guthrie and our peer districts long before I applied for the job as Superintendent. What I found in the research was a school district with remarkable success in athletics and a community with potential for tremendous growth due to geography and existing transportation infrastructure. I also found a concerning history of failed bond issues. Many local opinions exist on why, including a large population of retired citizens as well as a relatively low average family income level.  Regardless of the ‘why’s’, I’ve said from the beginning that the importance a community places on education is directly reflected in the condition of its school buildings.    Read more…
