An early morning vehicle fire nearly caused a downtown building to go up in flames, but thankfully a nearby business owner saw the fire just in time.

The Guthrie Fire Department was dispatched to the alleyway behind the Guthrie News Leader, located at 107 W. Harrison, just after 3:3o a.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, a Dodge pickup truck was totally involved parked next to the back of the newspaper building.

Crews needed just minutes to get the fire under control, but before they arrived the fire had made its way onto the building. The fire did not make its way into the building, but a haze of smoke was able to penetrate the inside.

The nearby business owner was closing down his restaurant when he smelled smoke and believed at first it was in his kitchen until he made his way outside to see the inferno.

There was no injuries reported and it is unknown on what exactly what caused the fire.

I love it how our firemen just jump in, regardless of the fact that this truck could have exploded! They are so brave! I’m so glad the fire was put out and everyone was safe!
