Police chief to retire after 23 year career in Guthrie

For the first time in a decade, the Guthrie Police Department will be searching for a police chief. Damon Devereaux announced he will be retiring at the end of July.

With his upcoming retirement, Devereaux will finish a 23-year law enforcement career – all with the Guthrie police department.

In a statement from the City of Guthrie stated, “the City of Guthrie appreciates the dedication, loyalty and service that Damon Devereaux has exemplified over his tenure with the City.”

Devereaux served as a reserve officer for four months before joining the department on Oct. 7, 1991. In 1993, he advanced to a Corporal before moving to the Lieutenant position. Later, he was named deputy chief and interim chief before coming on as the full-time police chief in 2004.

“Join the City of Guthrie in wishing him a farewell and all the best in his future endeavors,” the statement concluded with.
