Jay Trenary trial begins; girlfriend denies allegations

Bookmark and Share

The state of Oklahoma called their first two witnesses in their case against Guthrie attorney Jay Trenary.

Trenary is accused of willfully, intentionally and unlawfully of assault and batter on his girlfriend on May 28, 2011. The two were and remain in a dating relationship.

Trenary is representing himself, but does have a co-counsel.

Along with the domestic abuse charge, Trenary is also facing the charge of obstructing an officer. Both charges are labeled as misdemeanors and can be punished by imprisonment up to one year or a fine of $5,000, and or both.

The state claims Trenary struggled and wrestled with his alleged victim by hitting her in the face with a pair of car keys causing bodily harm with a small laceration on the bridge of her nose and scratches on both of her arms.

Trenary was again arrested in April 2012 and faces three more misdemeanor crimes, including resisting an officer and obstructing an officer. Related story: Local attorney arrested for second time in 10 months

Trenary’s girlfriend was the first to testify and animatedly denied she was a victim of an assault and battery by Trenary in front of six jurors that consist of four females and two males.

The victim, who took questions for 79 minutes on the stand, at times became argumentative with the state’s attorney and was asked on multiple occasions by the attorney to quit making eye contact with Trenary before answering questions. She responded once by saying, she did not want to be disrespectful and was going to look at the jurors instead as she shifted her body in their direction.

She testified to making a written statement that evening with the police officer, who responded to the scene after a 911 call was placed from a neighbor’s cell phone.

The neighbor, from across the street, was the other witness called by the state and testified that she received a call from the victim saying, “come help me”.

Once arriving to the house, the victim asked the neighbor to call 911. She obliged by making the call, but gave the phone to her so she can talk to dispatch because she was uncertain exactly as to what was going on.

Neither the victim or neighbor knew the phone was still connected to the Guthrie dispatch during parts of the argument.

According to the victim’s testimony, the police officer attempted to get Trenary to roll down the window of his truck to speak with him, but said Trenary has a hard time hearing and that he had the music blaring classical music at the time.

The officer eventually placed Trenary under arrest on the two charges despite the victim not wanting to place charges. The victim also explained she did not want the officer to take photos of her and her apparent injuries, but felt bullied by the officer to do so.

The following day, the victim asked the neighbor to take her to the police station to fill out a second statement to change her first statement.

The trial is set to pick back up at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Of course she denied allegations. She is under this man’s spell. This man is a bad seed. Can you say disbarrment? When does the great bar association of Oklahoma clean up their own? This stuff is very unbecomming of an agent of the court.

I would bet “Mishni”, his “co-counsel” never sees a dime for being present in court. Its a shame, he seems like a “normal” sorta guy. A nice man. How in God’s green earth did he get hooked up with the likes of Trenary?
