Driver, passenger passes out with child in back seat at McDonalds

Bookmark and Share

Two people were arrested early Sunday morning when they were found passed out in the McDonald’s drive thru with a child not properly fastened in the back seat.

A McDonald’s employee was seen on surveillance video trying to wake up Monnette Sullivan, 39, and Gary Payne Jr., 32, from their vehicle that was still running while still in drive and with the headlights on. Video shows the car arriving at 5:05 a.m.

Sullivan and Payne, who were not wearing seat belts, were both found to be passed out and leaning on the windows when officers arrived at 5:26 a.m. After several attempts, officers were able to get Payne, the passenger, to awaken and open the door.

Officers found partially smoked marijuana cigarettes inside the black Toyota. Once at the hospital for a blood test, officers found an unburnt marijuana cigarette inside Sullivan’s cigarette pack.

Sullivan, who failed a field sobriety test, was arrested for driving under the influence while transporting a child under the age of 15, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Payne was arrested for a Logan County warrant.

A fourth count was charged to Sullivan for child endangerment by driving under the influence the following day with the three previous charges. She was arraigned on the added count on February 15th.

Sullivan told officers she was picking her son up at 4:00 a.m. after getting off of work. The child, who was dressed in flannel tops and bottoms only, was awake in the back seat and was not properly secure with the shoulder straps under the toddlers shoulders. The child was described as to smelling “strongly of a wet diaper and buttocks were wrinkled from the moisture “.

The child was taken to the Guthrie Police Department and later released to DHS custody.

This would be news posted anywhere! Not just “Guthrie.” People are just booty hurt because it’s somebody they “know.” You see stuff similar on national level news, and if you do the crime you better be sure you want to pay all consequences.

I think something i seriously wrong with people these days! It the kids that pay the consequences.

Seriously Doug…being on a news webpage is what they get and it’s their own damn fault for being self-centered idiots. Poor baby…hope the child gets put in the care of people who really will love and nurture this innicent child.

They should terminate her parental rights immediately, maybe the child could still come out normal!! It’s behavior like this that adds credence to argument for sterilization of derlict dope headed welfare recipients!

self righteous people you are. God is the judge, not you ,remember that!!!!!! bet none of you have made a bad dicision in your life….ha.this article makes it sound bad and perhaps it is, but, monnette has never been in any trouble before and deserves some understanding. i have NEVER seen her son unkept. he is always clean and as a matter of fact, a little on the spoiled side. yes what happened was wrong but instead of being a hanging jury , you should pray for her and her family.

Yes mamm you are correct, god is the ultimate judge! But are you not familiar with our judicial system? She will be judged by a jury of her peers! I hope and pray I’m on that jury!! I just wish I knew why she was not charged with felony child endangerment? There is no excuse for judgment this poor when it comes to a child to young to speak for themselves!!!

whether she has or has not been in trouble before is not the issue here…….maybe she just hasn’t ever been caught…….the issue is that she had a toddler in the car and he was not secure,,,,she was passed out under the influence of a controlled DANGEROUS substance, and had drug paraphernalia in her possesion in close proximity of said toddler,,,,the car was running,,,in drive,,,the baby could have gotten hold of the drugs, or crawled over the seat and fell on the gas and caused a death or any number of other possibilities and you just want to call it a bad decision….are you serious,,,,the woman is 39 years old…..there is no EXCUSE !!!!!,,,,, selfish, selfish, and selfish not to mention irresponsible and selfish

Wow you really just said that Debbie??????? You never made a bad decision in your life???? Holy smokes, I WOULD NEVER JEOPARDIZE A CHILD ESPECIALLY MY OWN LIKE THEY DID!!! Im proud to say I am not that stupid nor selfish!!!!!! Yes Im sure you love Monette but really, you are excusing what she did??? She will be lucky this doesnt make national news for being a BAD parent!!! Did you look at her picture too??? Im a betting person that this ISNT the first time she has done that!!! She doesnt just decide to do something like this on a whim……sigh…sad, sad, sad!!! I will keep her in my prayers but I truly pray that her ignorance does not affect anyone else!!! EVER!!! I will keep her family in my prayers because they have to deal with all the comments from everyone and the embarrassment that she has brought to them not including the attorney fees and court costs someone is going to have to pay. I pray the baby will be with someone in the famly that IS responsible and the child doesnt have to go to complete strangers!!! I pray for your hurt, healing and disappoinment you have in her too!!! Hard to swallow but everyone has an opinion and unfortunately the news is part of our world even in a small town. Its like the OK Jailbirds magazine/newspaper…dont do anything wrong/illegal and you wont end up in the paper!!! Plain and simple. Praying for all involved!!! Just being realistic!!!

I think the baby and the mother needs prayer, then they should make mother go into rehab until she is weaned from booze and drugs, before she can get her baby back. We shouldn’t be worrying about the mother tho we should put the baby at the top of the list. My prayers go with them both.

Humility has always been the best teacher.

Well I for one think y’all should show some compassion for the young mom, having to pick up her kid after working until 4am. You ain’t perfect. And the baby was just asleep, no harm done. At least they didn’t let the baby get hold of a loaded gun with no trigger lock. Maybe the police should start looking in the mirror before they charge felony child endangerment.
