Logan County District 2 Update: University bridge nearing completion

We are moving toward the final stages of construction on the new bridge at University east of Midwest. In late Nov. 2012, to minimize inconvenience to area residents, we temporarily installed a tin culvert and low water crossing at the site to enable them to enter and exit. We then removed the old bridge and excavated to enlarge the area of water flow. This was done to eliminate the flooding which has occurred in the past at this site during heavy rainfall. This week we finished the process of digging trenches for footing, installing rebar cages in the trenches, constructing and placing forms for keyways and pouring concrete. This process was performed with great attention to detail as the footings need to have the exact grade to fit the prefabricated bridge. Read more…

I’ve traveled many of the District 2 roads, assessing conditions, and many of you  have called my cell phone or the office. This has given us a good comprehension of where the worst areas are and how best to re-establish road base. This week we will use road graders and trucks to the fullest extent to accomplish this. We appreciate your patience as we work toward addressing your roadway’s specific needs. Read more…

Progress continues on the University Bridge east of Midwest. A temporary low water crossing has been built, the old bridge torn out and dirt excavated where the new structure will be placed. Forms to create keyways in the concrete footings for new bridge legs have been constructed. If the weather cooperates, next week ditches will be dug and rebar placed for the footings. Scurlock Industries was awarded the bid for the new bridge. It will be a pre-cast, reinforced concrete,
three-sided structure. Scurlock is in the process of completing five sections which will form the bridge. We are hoping for delivery and placement of the sections during mid-January. Read more…

Work on special projects is progressing throughout District 2. In the south we have finished building the road base with shale on Forrest Hills (No Name) from Pine to Midwest. Recently we installed tinhorns which are critical in establishing proper drainage for the road and right-of-way. All of this is in preparation for a 2 ½” laydown of asphalt which we hope to apply by the middle of November. Read more…
