Owner finds calf shot with arrow; case now being investigated

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a calf who was shot and killed by an apparent arrow.

CalfDeputies responded  to Luther Road just south of Triplett on the west side of the road, after a cattle owner found his Black Angus calf dead on the morning of Nov. 4.

“The calf appeared to have an entrance wound on its right side right behind the right front shoulder,” Chief Deputy Richard Stephens said.

Stephens said the wound appeared to be in comparison to a gun shot, but further investigation led to another finding.

“Upon further inspection of the calf a broken arrow was located inside the calf inside the rib cage. The arrow was dark in color with a broad head arrow tip commonly used in bow hunting. There was red coloring on the arrow tip with three silver razor-sharp blades,” Stephens described.

In addition, Stephens says the arrow was broken off by the suspect in an attempt to recover the arrow.

Tire tracks and shoe prints were located in the area adjacent to the location of the calf.

Investigators contacted an Oklahoma Wildlife Commission Game Warden, who responded to scene as well to gather facts and descriptions that might aide in this investigation. Investigators also contacted the Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement Division to assist in this investigation.

“Investigators have spoken with several residents in the area, but are interested in other residents, or possibly hunters who have land in the area to inquire about game cameras or other types of surveillance in the area that might provide leads to further this investigation,” Stephens concluded.
