Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.

“It’s fun for the kids to walk in big groups like this because it just feels safer, and there’s power in numbers. But there are kids of all ages walking and biking to Guthrie schools every day. Hopefully seeing an event like today will remind drivers to slow down and keep an eye out for children,” said Justin Fortney of the Logan County Health Department.
