Did you know that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children between the ages of one and 12 years old? Fortunately, using a properly-installed car seat for your child can reduce the chance of a fatality during a car crash by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.

Fire Chief Eric Harlow, Heather Ward and Mayor Mark Spradln helped kicked off Child Passenger Safety Week.

To help ensure the safety of young passengers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration created Child Passenger Safety week, an initiative to educate parents and caregivers on which car seats are best for their children and how to install and use them properly.

Mayor Mark Spradlin signed the Proclamation during a ceremony in the City Hall Council Chambers Monday morning to name the week of September 14 through 20, 2014 as Child Passenger Safety Week in Guthrie. Along with the Mayor was Fire Chief Eric Harlow and Heather Ward with the Logan County Health Department.
In recognition of this important initiative, the Guthrie Fire Department would like to encourage Guthrie citizens to come to the fire station at 209 East Springer for a free child safety seat inspection at any time.
