A Guthrie house was engulfed with flames and smoke as firefighters arrived on the west side of town Tuesday afternoon. The cause of the fire appears to be suspicious.

House Fire 08052014The Guthrie Fire Department responded shortly after 12:15 p.m. to 1524 W. Logan. First responders found heavy fire throughout the home.

Fire Chief Eric Harlow says the fire appears to have started in an addition on the northwest corner.

The fire also affected the nearby home to the west. The intense heat melted majority of the  home’s exterior siding and windows.

The homeowner, whose siding was damaged, is thankful for firefighters saving her home from completely going up in flames

“So thankful that the fire fighters got there when they did or my house would have been gone, along with my belongings and dog,” Mindi Taylor said on Guthrie News Page’s Facebook page.

Harlow says due to the amount of damage, the cause of the fire is undetermined. However, drug paraphernalia was found in the area where the fire originated from.

Despite the home being vacant for some time, nearby neighbors believe people may have been squatting in the home.

There were no injuries reported at the scene.
