The YMCA has several things going on for the upcoming school year. They are offering before and after school care along with the PreK Care program! Before and after-school program runs from 6:30am until start of school day and from end of school day to 6:00pm at Cotteral Elementary School. The Kids In Action (KIA) program is offered at Cotteral for the preschool program through the Guthrie Public Schools. Care will not be offered on holidays that the Y is closed or on inclement weather days that the school is closed. These and other similar occurrences have been considered in the pricing; therefore, credits or refunds will not be issued. Applications are available at the Guthrie Y or can be downloaded at YMCAOKC.ORG The YMCA is also hiring Teachers and Counselors. The Guthrie Y is located at 114 E. Oklahoma Ave. 405-282-8206.

They have changed their hours and are now doing breakfast from 5a.m. to 10a.m and stay open until midnight. Their ribbon cutting is scheduled for the 20th of August at 10a.m.

Girl Scout Troop 516 held their second Pet Palooza at Mineral Wells Park, I was honored to be a judge. The animal shelter currently has twenty one dogs, two found permanent homes Saturday afternoon! Mercy Morris, a yellow Corgi took Grand Champ! The girl scouts worked hard putting together this event to benefit the animals at the Guthrie Animal Shelter. Thanks, Ladies!!

The Arts in Guthrie’s first Getting To Know You Potluck was a huge success! The purpose was to let local artists and arts enthusiasts have a chance to meet and mingle in a relaxed atmosphere. There was close to 80 people in attendance, with representatives from every walk of life, all celebrating Guthrie’s Arts Culture. TAG president, Bill Perring, welcomed everyone and he and Executive Director Lucy Swanson shared news about what they have been working at. They reported that they had won a grant that they had applied for several months ago from The Oklahoma Arts Council with the purpose of helping us create a Cultural Arts District here. They also told us about plans to create a Mobile Art Gallery which would be a box truck, finished out on the inside so that Guthrie artists work can be displayed. The truck will then be driven to events all over the state to bring a little bit of Guthrie’s Arts District to other places and show them what we have to offer! That is marketing, folks! Have a great week!
