DPS: Fatality report for the month of June

Department of Public Safety officials report 55 fatalities in June 2014 compared to 57 in the same month last year.

Guthrie News PageDuring the month of June there were nine motorcyclists and three pedestrians who died in crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include 15 deaths on Mondays, dropping to 12 on Thursdays. There were seven days in the month of June the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.

Three of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Forty-eight of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and seven nonresidents. There were 39 male, 16 female victims.

Ten of the fatality victims were under the age of 20.  The 21 – 30  year-old age group led the fatality count with 13.

Oklahoma County led the state with a fatality count of four, followed by Tulsa, McCurtain, Custer and Pushmataha counties with three fatalities.

The highest number of fatalities occurred on State Highways with 18.  There were 10 fatalities on US Highways.

Fifty-three percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
