The Oklahoma Department of Transportation recently held a public hearing regarding the environmental assessment of the 78-year-old viaduct bridge on Highway 33.

ViaductSeveral citizens and business owners packed the Oklahoma Territorial Sports Museum for the 35 minute meeting regarding the structurally deficient bridge that separates Guthrie’s west side.

Members of ODOT and CP&Y, Inc., the engineering consulting firm, discussed the federally funded project, alternative considerations as well as the social, economic and environmental impacts.

The project is estimated to relocate 23 commercial and 12 residential relocations.

The project schedule includes the completion of the Enviromental Assessment by the summer of 2014. The right-of-way appraisals, acquisition and utility relocations are estimated to begin this summer and take up to possibly 2016. Once construction begins, projected in 2016, the road will remain open, but congestion, noise and traffic safety will be factors.
