A day after the Guthrie Board of Education passed a resolution for an end to Common Core standards in Oklahoma, Board President Travis Sallee and Legislative Liaison Jennifer Bennett Johnson, whom also serves on the school board, issued the following press release on the school district’s letterhead. Senate approves ‘Parents Bill of Rights’

The full Senate has given unanimous approval to a measure aimed at protecting the rights of parents to decide how best to raise their children.  House Bill 1384, by Sen. AJ Griffin, R-Guthrie, and Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, is also known as the “Parents Bill of Rights.” Read more…

Lions Club hosting a Street Dance for ‘89ers

An old ‘89er venue is being revisited this year — a good old fashioned Street Dance. Lion Club President Cheryl Tarter noted, “The club wanted to do something special for ‘89er Celebration Week and after some discussion we decided to throw all our support to bringing back the street dance venue.  The club is really excited about this special event which will be held on Friday, April 18th at 7 p.m. at Oklahoma and 2nd Street”.  Read more…
