Variety Show and auction a success for Territorial Christmas

The Christmas Tree Auction and Variety Show was a success Sunday afternoon with several trees being auctioned for $300 or more.

Pepper’s Ranch and The Guthrie Territorial Christmas Foundation will split the funds that were raised. Former Guthrie Mayor Chuck Burtcher served as the event’s auctioneer.

They want to thank everyone who contributed items for auction, the performers who entertained the crowd and especially those who came out to bid on the really gorgeous items.

The term mutt is a shortened version of muttonhead.   The definition of a muttonhead is a slow-witted, foolish or stupid person and based on the notion that sheep are stupid.    Muttonhead was first sheared, pun intended, in 1901 to Mutt.  In 1904 it was used as a term of contempt for a horse and then in 1906 used in dogs which is the term must of us are familiar with.  Other words that have been used to describe a mutt include mongrel, Heinz 57, cur, tyke, pooch, scruffy dog, mixed breed, crossed breed.  Read more…
