Langston University supporting Logan County citizens

During Langston University’s Homecoming festivities there were many winners; the football team, all those who watched the homecoming parade, and the citizens of Logan County.  Yes, citizens of Logan County were winners because University leadership decided to contribute one dollar from every homecoming game ticket sold to the United Way of Logan County.

Dr. Kent Smith, University President, noted, “Langston University is committed to being a partner with our local communities as well as providing a wonderful educational experience for our students.  We feel that by contributing to the United Way of Logan County we are able to directly “reach out and touch” those who are in need, those who need a helping hand.  Making our local communities stronger and helping their citizens is a part of our mission.”

University Athletic Director, Michael Garrett, noted, “Our student/athletes are talented men and women, many of whom volunteer for United Way Partner Agencies. We are proud of them and all the Langston students who volunteer their time to make surrounding communities a better place to live, work and learn.”

Jessica Eaves, United Way Coordinator, made a special observation, “Langston University, through its energetic leadership, has  developed an innovative campaign to  support the United Way of Logan County . Significant goals have been established for students, faculty and university staff, and unique efforts, like those during homecoming week, have enhanced United Way awareness and contributions on campus. Langston University is giving back to Logan County in a special way.”
