Barr sentenced to 60 years; family still coping with crime

Gabriel Barr was sentenced to at least 10 years behind prison bars for his actions last year in August with a Craigslist robbery scam that started at a Guthrie convenience store.

In a statement, the mother says her children (seven and five years old), along with her husband and herself, they have not been able to sleep well and are having nightmares after seeing guns pointed at them. The children are going through counseling at their schools.

She went on to say her family continues to endure emotional stress.

Barr, who was a Langston college student, was sentenced to 20 years each for first degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first degree robbery. The last 10 years will be suspended with good behavior on both counts and will run conjointly on all charges.

In the other charges, assault with a dangerous weapon and creating a false personation, Barr was sentenced to 10 years and will run conjointly with the prior charges.

Along with fees and fines, Barr is to pay $3,500 in restitution to the victims.

Rotesha Jackson, 20, and Sylvia Lee, 23, both Oklahoma State college students, were also arrested with Barr and both face first degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first degree robbery. Both remain in custody and are scheduled to be back in court.
