24 marijuana plants leads to foot chase

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office was in an early morning foot pursuit Saturday morning after deputies a land owner discovered a large marijuana cultivation on his property.

The Sheriff’s Office received the complaint from the land owner, who found an area of his land cultivated with marijuana plants near State Highway 105 and Triple X Road.

“The area of cultivation appeared to be approximately 25 yards square. There were 24 actively growing marijuana plants located,” Captain Richard Stephens said.

The area was surrounded by piles of fallen branches and scrub brush arranged to provide concealment. Stephens went on to say the plants were organized, purposeful cultivated and were being irrigated with an irrigation system.

“They had been weeded and cared for some time,” Stephens said.

As deputies were investigating the area, they saw a suspect, wearing camouflage clothing and carrying a large duffle bag, approaching the area on foot from a different location. Deputies attempted to get in the area of the suspect, but the suspect took off and was able to escape in a white Ford Ranger pick-up truck.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 30 years of age.

Deputies contacted the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (OBNDD), and an agent responded to the location and examined the marijuana growth. An OBNDD agent and deputies eradicated the plants and destroyed the cultivation materials on site.
