Special Olympics to accepts bids for storm shelter

Bookmark and Share

With a few generous offers and donations, someone can come away with a great deal on a storm shelter and at the same time benefit the Guthrie Special Olympics.

Special OlympicsA Norman resident recently won a storm shelter at the annual Spring Fling Fundraiser held by the Guthrie Special Olympics, but she turned around and donated it right back after she informed organizers she already had a storm shelter.

Now bids will be accepted from Red Dirt Septic and Backhoe. As a donation to Guthrie Special Olympics, Hausner’s Inc, the manufacturer of the storm shelter, has offered to pay half of the shelter while Red Dirt Septic is will pay for the delivery/installation (up to 75 mile radius) and upgrade of the decorative stone on the outside of the shelter.

“This is such a great deal that they are offering us, “Laura Benham said. “This storm shelter sells at Red Dirt Septic for $2900.”

Sealed bids will be accepted with a $1500.00 minimum. The highest bidder will win the shelter. In case of a tie, bidders will be notified and given opportunity to revise their bids.

Bids are to be sent to Laura Benham at Guthrie Upper Elementary at 702 Crooks Dr. in Guthrie.

Bids are due at 3:30 on April 26. Bids should include the amount for shelter, name, address, and phone number. If you have any questions, you are urged to call Benhan at 248-6221.

That article is clear as mud. Are we bidding for half of the shelter? Why is Red Dirt accepting bids? Will somebody clarify this.

Red Dirt is not accepting bids. Laura Benham (myself), the Guthrie Special Olympics Coordinator, is accepting “sealed bids” at Guthrie Upper Elementary. The deadline is April 26th by 3:30. Red Dirt is mentioned becasue they are the company that is donating the installation and delivery costs. Minimum bids start at $1500.00. If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.
      Thanks, Laura Benham 248-6221
