Current Mayor Chuck Burtcher told Guthrie News Page in December he was not going to seek a fourth term, and now two candidates will run for the position.

Vice Mayor Trey Ayers, who has represented Ward I for the past six years on the council, will run against Mark Spradlin. Spradlin has been an instrumental part in the progress of the Community Garden on South Division.

The term for mayor is a two-year term and is elected at-large in a non-partisan race.

Two current council members will face challengers in the primary election set for March 5 with the general election set for April 2.

In Ward I, incumbent John Wood will run against Mathis Hathorne and in Ward III Gaylord Z Thomas will be opposed by Linda Craddock.

Current Ward II councilwoman Patty Hazlewood did not seek re-election. Brian Bothroyd and Jeff Taylor will run for the open seat.
