City of Guthrie to discontinue final delivery notices

Bookmark and Share

Beginning January 1, 2013, the City of Guthrie will be discontinuing the service of hand delivered notices, also known as red tags, for final notices for utility customers.

Currently, customers who do not pay their utility bill are provided a red tag as a final reminder before the service will be disconnected the following day.

According to the City, the decision was made because of the desires to increase fiscal responsibility by effective use of available labor. The additional time it takes to redeliver the information that is already placed in the second notice that is mailed out every month, can be used elsewhere taking care of other needs and responsibilities.

Beginning with the January billing, customers will receive their bill on or about the first of the month and will have until the 15th day of the month to pay their bill before a $5 late fee is added.

The next business day after the 15th a final notice will be mailed. In this, the date of ‘last day to pay’ and ‘disconnect’ date will be noted. This will be the final notice given before the service is disconnected.

If you have any questions regarding the new process, please call City Hall at 405-282-0492 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
