The Guthrie City Council made it official Tuesday evening when they named a new City Manager.

As Guthrie News Page reported several days ago, Sereniah Breland was introduced as the new manager following a 21-minute executive session by council members.

Along with the hiring of Breland, the council voted unanimously (5-0) to retain Randal Shadid as the City Attorney and David Hood as the City Judge.

Mayor Chuck Burtcher was absent as was Vice Mayor Trey Ayers.

Details were not released, but Breland’s first scheduled day is set for October 22. Her final day with Goliad will be Sept. 27.

On the same night, Breland turned in her resignation and was accepted by the Goliad (Texas) City Council.

Breland takes the vacant position from Matt Mueller, who accepted a similar position in Little Elm, Texas. Mueller’s final day was September 15. City Clerk Wanda Calvert is serving as the interim manager.

Breland told a local reporter in Texas that some of the things she is most proud in  Goliad include decreasing solid waste rates for customers and increasing funding for the fire department.

Prior to her position with Golid, Breland served the City of Sugar Land, Tx as their Support Services Director and before that was the Recycling Coordinator for the City of Denton and Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Greenville.

Before entering local government, Breland taught World History, Government and Economics in the Texas towns of  Garland and Mesquite.
