Man steals vehicle and plows into buildings

A Guthrie man is behind bars after he stole a vehicle and rammed it into two buildings on Guthrie’s west side of town Friday evening. As it turns out, it’s not his first time, nor his second time, to do so.

Authorities say Larry Dale Young, 41 of Guthrie, stole a four-door, Ford pick-up truck from around the Four Corners area (Highway 74 and Highway 33) and eventually ended up in a business garage on 19th and Oklahoma.

Young was traveling north on 19th street when he somehow lost control of the truck and swiped the corner of a building and then crashed into another building several feet away.

Witnesses say Young seemed to be out of sorts when he exited the truck, but moments later took off on foot.

A reporting party called 911 and helped police locate Young, who was running east without a shirt wearing blue jeans and a red shirt around his head. Eventually a Guthrie police officer tackled Young at the corner of 16th and Harrison where he was taken into custody.

Officials say this is not the first time Young has been in a chase with police.

Young was convicted on seven counts for an event that took place in July 2006, including unauthorized use of a vehicle, larceny of merchandise from retailer, larceny of merchandise from retailer, eluding police officer, malicious injury to property-under $2500 and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Young pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentence to serve 10 years with the Department of Corrections.

Last February, Young try to elude police in Edmond in a truck with speeds reaching 100 m.p.h. His case is still pending in the courts. Related story: Edmond police arrest Guthrie man after pursuit

Sentenced to ten years in 2006, what was he doing out of prison? Sounds like he is more than qualified for 3 strikes and you’re out! So long you little turd!

Why wasn’t the guy still in jail from his 10 year sentence issued in 2006. That’s the problem with the justice system…there is no real deterrent to crime. Do the crime, do half the time doesn’t work!
