‘Stuff the Bus’ riding through Guthrie for soldiers

Bookmark and Share

A Oklahoma group is trying to make sure soldiers and their families will have a happy holiday season, despite injuries or being  stationed overseas.

The First Capital Trolley in Guthrie will be taking part in the “Stuff the Bus Oklahoma 2011” to benefit Operation Homefront Oklahoma. Items will be accepted through October 18th.

Gov. Mary Fallin has declared October as Public Transit Month in Oklahoma, and organizations across the state will hold events throughout October collecting holiday items for soldiers.

Organizers say they are trying to collect  items throughout the month in preparation of soldiers being away from their families for another holiday.

Volunteers will be accepting donations to pack the bus to provide soldiers and their families a bit of joy this holiday season.

Operation Homefront Oklahoma is asking for the following items:

  • Gift cards to grocery stores, restaurants, stores and gas stations.
  • Holiday toys for children
  • Books for children of all ages
  • Any sports item or equipment related to football, basketball, soccer, baseball, tennis and golf
  • Coloring/ art supplies
  • New clothing including hats, mittens, scarves and coats
  • Diapers
  • Food (dry goods-holiday items like cranberry sauce, stuffing and gravy)

Items that are collected will be delivered to the ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, October 19, 2011.

First Capital Trolley will pick up your donation by calling (405) 282-6000.
