Former stand-out at Oklahoma State and Chicago Bears tight end Alonzo Mayes was arrested in Logan County on July 15, 2011 for a misdemeanor.

Alonzo Lewis Mayes Jr (06-04-1975) was arrested by the Langston Police Department just before 5:00 for driving his brown 2004 Chevy Tahoe with a suspended license.

Mayes was brought into the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and posted a $1,000 bond.

Deputy Chief Paul Bush said in his affidavit he noticed Mayes, who had a warrant for a traffic ticket, and activated his emergency lights and pulled the vehicle over at Sammie Davis and Lincoln and placed him under arrest without incident.

The crime is punishable by a fine of no less than $100 but no more than $500 and/or imprisonment for not more than one year.

Mayes, a Oklahoma City Douglass High school star basketball and football athlete, was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 1998 NFL draft as the 94th overall pick (4th round) out of Oklahoma State where he was named an All-American. He was a projected first round pick, but failed the league’s pre-draft drug test.

He played a total of three seasons in the league (98-2001) where he collected 33 receptions, 339 yards and 1 touchdown. At Oklahoma State, Mayes accumulated 91-catches for 1,357 yards and 14 touchdowns.
