Coyle Public School District was one of 26 School Districts to be awarded a Healthy Schools Incentive Grant from the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET).

Logan County Board of Health appointment

Commissioner of Health and State Health Officer Dr. Terry Cline announces the re-appointment of Shirley Ford to the Logan County Board of Health. Her term will begin July 1, 2013 and will expire June 30, 2017.

Guthrie receives $8k grant; funds will help with bike racks, street paint

Guthrie was one of 21 cities to be awarded a Healthy Communities Incentive Grant from the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET). On May 9, the Oklahoma TSET Board of the Directors approved a $8,000 grant for Guthrie to help continue projects that promote physical activity, wellness and overall community health.

Upper Elementary students walk for new equipment

Guthrie Upper Elementary School was a recipient of the Fuel up To Play 60 grant this school year.  The monies used from the grant went to supply items for the walking trial on the playground.

5th annual See Spot Run in Guthrie to benefit Free To Live

The fifth annual “The See Spot Run” will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in downtown Guthrie, Oklahoma.  This race event is benefitting Free to Live, a non-profit animal sanctuary located in Edmond, Oklahoma (www.freetoliveok.com).

Logan County Health Department recognizes National Nurses Week

Every year, National Nurses Week, May 6-12, focuses attention on the diverse ways America’s 3.1 million registered nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. There are approximately 42,743 RNs and 18,806 LPNs working in the field of nursing to improve health care in Oklahoma. The celebration begins May 6 on RN Recognition Day and ends May 12, on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.

Relay for Life set to celebrate and remember all night in the park

Come and join the Relay for Life of Logan County for their huge over night event as they celebrate their survivors, remember those that have gone on before us, and fight back against cancer.

Guthrie YMCA and the Logan County Health Department renew Tai Chi Offering

Tai chi: Moving for Better Balance is a free course offered at the Guthrie YMCA in partnership with the Logan County Health Department. This course helps adults improve their balance and reduce their chances of falling. The next kick-off is Tuesday, May 7 at 10 a.m.
