Have you ever watched Frank and Mike on American Pickers? I love their show and was excited to take a call from their network. They would like to come to Guthrie, but only if we have some interesting characters and certain items they are looking for. Motor scooters i.e. Vespas, Lambretta, Cushman, old advertising signage, bicycles, unusual radios, old toys that are tin, wind-up and cast iron, old movie posters, taxidermy, vintage bb guns, election memorabilia, musical instruments, vintage gas pumps, strange woodcarvings and much much more. Give us a call at the office and we will email you a list or stop by for a copy.

Guthrie is already “The Queen Of The Prairie” but we feel that it is time to begin to start stimulating artistic, cultural, and economic growth through the support and promotion of the arts. Creating an Arts District, supported by a foundation which will distribute grants to deserving projects will bring a new dimension to Guthrie!

There is a new Recycle Center operated by Outback Resources taking the place of the recycle center to the West of the Fire Station. The new location is 1923 S. Division which is the old Northwest Center for Behavioral Health, across the street from Taco Bell.  They accept everything but glass. If you have questions call 293-6516.

Chamber holds annual awards banquet

The Guthrie Chamber of Commerce held their annual awards banquet Thursday evening were they recognized their 2012 business, citizen, volunteer and lifetime achievement awards.

Our Educational Series this month is “Get Your Plate In Shape.” Presented by Courtney Thompson and Cathy James who will have some fun activities, lots of knowledge on MyPlate and how people can do their best to get their plate full of more fruits and vegetables. They will also talk to work-sites about the importance of having at least one healthy item when meetings are held. Guthrie citizens wanted for promotional video “We Are Guthrie”

An open casting call for a promotional video entitled “We Are Guthrie” will be held on Saturday, March 9 at Community Church (Fellowship Hall) near Exit 151 and Seward Road. Filming will start at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. This video will showcase the amazing individuals that make Guthrie what it is today. No acting required! No speaking required! You will be prompted to lip sync one short line of music, do a few fun hand-gestures, and that’s it!

The Logan County Democratic Women’s Club will meet Friday, March 1st. Business will include presentation of the two candidates running for the Ward I seat, Matthis Hathorne and John Wood. The public is welcome to attend; meeting begins at 7p.m. in the fellowship hall of Trinity Episcopal Church.
